[matt spiro]Reports suggest PSG will go with Ruiz, Zaire-Emery & Neves in midfield, meaning the brilliant Vitinha misses out. Reasoning is they want bigger players (than Vitinha) to deal with Arsenal’s set pieces. Interesting opponents are so worried they could leave out such a good player

  1. that’s still a very complete midfield tbf. a bunch of my mates are PSG supporters and they love how the team looks on overall balance without Mbappe, but they all think kolo muani is shite, and they’re stuck starting asensio at 9. so PSGs main problem at this point is they don’t have an out and out goalscorer.

  2. Doubt it. Vitinha is their best player. They’re not going to leave him out just because his replacement could possibly get his head on a set piece.

  3. For anyone wondering they’re are

    6’2

    5’10

    5’9

Still shouldn’t be anything to worry about

Would be surprised if this is true but if so it’s an interesting knock-on effect of being good at set pieces, if teams are willing to be worse on the ball to (try to) stop us in the air. Makes them weaker in a different area and gives us an advantage elsewhere

  5. PSG’s defending isn’t going to be the best defence against our set pieces, it’ll be the ref blowing for a foul the moment one of them starts screaming in the box like as if he’s been suplexed.

  6. The only player over 6′ is Ruiz. I doubt it matters if a guy is 5’8 or 5’9, he’s not stopping a 6’3 CB jumping over him. Smells like nice PR to me

  7. I love that we have literally tried to maximise every situation. Set pieces are an important part of the game – dunno why people think they’re indicative of a lower table side. A goal from a corner is worth the same as a goal anywhere else on the pitch.

The key is being able to score from both set pieces and open play which we are able to

I did some lurking on their sub a few hours ago and I found out they don’t have a set piece coach so they’re genuinely shitting bricks in that aspect so this seems legit

Im not 100% sure, but hasnt vitinha been sidelined with injury and this would be his first game back?

Surely that would also play a big role, to bring him back to a game which surely will be high intensity and risk reinjury

  10. Zaire-Emery is a bang tidy holding midfielder! If you get the ball off him, you are doing well.

  11. Kinda sounds like mind games? Think a team like PSG are more likely to concentrate on playing their own football.

    If true this is massive.

Because Vitinha is genuinely incredible and has been my dream midfield signing for the past year.

    He’s so good.

Him off the bench though that is gonna be dangerous.

We used to be on the other side of that. Really great technical players but very small in size. Feels amazing not being bullied anymore.

  14. Seems crazy to me as, whilst our set pieces are lethal, it’s far more dangerous to give us midfield dominance and let us dictate possession.

  15. Nonsense article. They’re trying to make it seem like they have inside knowledge when in fact, Vitinha’s absence is more likely because he’s coming back from an injury. You don’t leave out your best players for ties like these.

Neves isn’t exactly tall so I’m not sure it helps them that much but I’d imagine it’s in part due to his recent return from injury
