**Dalot hopes United can turn the page at the Dragão, just like Bruno Fernandes after his red card against Tottenham**

**- Manchester United have had three negative results, the last of which was a home defeat to Tottenham . What is your mindset as you visit Dragão for the Europa League ?**

    — With energy, that’s how we have to approach it. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the result or performance we wanted, but the good thing about football is that, three days later, there’s another game and a new opportunity to show better things. The game against FC Porto is perfect, because it’s the next one. We have to approach this game as if it were a final, because we’ll need points if we want to go through to the next round, and we really want to win the competition.

**— How does Diogo deal with these times when he comes from a negative result and has to change his mind for the next game. From what I know, he likes to take a break after setbacks…**

    — It’s normal to go through a process of reflection, especially because it shows the ability to calmly analyze what was done, good and bad. But there’s a maximum period of 24 hours to switch off and start thinking about the next one. It’s almost like closing the game. Especially because we don’t have much time. If we continue to live with the previous result and don’t focus on the next game… they’re different games, different opponents, different challenges. We have to change our mindset quickly to be in the best possible shape, physically and mentally.

**— And what is United’s focus on the Europa League , being a club with an incredible record, particularly in the Champions League …**

    — The goal is always to win, in every competition we participate in. The club demands it, it’s the achievements it has, that’s what gives the fans a name, that keeps this club going. We want to be in the big competitions. The Europa League is a good competition, but it’s not ideally where the club wants to be. We want to play in the Champions League , and to get closer we know that there’s a direct passage if we win the Europa League . If we have that opportunity, we have to grab it with everything we have. If we’re in the Europa League , we have to win it, that’s the minimum requirement.

**— What has the team been lacking to stabilize?**

    — What keeps clubs going well for a long time is consistency. That has been lacking a bit, not just in terms of results, but also in terms of performances. It will always come down to what we do on the pitch, and the more consistent we are in terms of results, attitude, everything that goes into the game and leads to success, the closer we will be to winning. I feel that there is a change now, a restructuring within the club, but within that process you will have to suffer. That is what we have done, we are all on the same page, and that is the most important thing. It is a daily job. The game can go very well, but you know that afterwards you will have to do more or better. When it doesn’t go so well, criticism will come. There are these ups and downs, and the more balanced you are, as a player and as a club, that is what will help you to be successful. That is what the club is looking for.

**— Diogo said that the game against FC Porto is the perfect opportunity to turn the page, as it is the next one. Could this also be a good opportunity for Bruno Fernandes to turn the page? There was already a lot of talk about him not scoring, unlike usual, and now he was sent off against Tottenham , which was highly contested. Could this game in Portugal be a good opportunity to turn the page?**

    — It’s not because it’s in Portugal, it’s because it’s the next game. Bruno sees things the same way I do: we’re players who are constantly looking to improve, we’re demanding of ourselves. He’s no different. He’s already shown that he can perform at a very high level, he knows there are ups and downs, but he manages to maintain his balance and knows that the moment will come. The team needs him. We’ve already shown that we’re a very strong team when he’s doing well. There will always be bad moments, with him and with other players. The question is how we get back on our feet, and he’s already shown in the past that he has the ability to get back on track, so I have no doubt that he’ll be very useful in the near future.

He also says in a separate bit of the interview that Diogo Costa (Porto GK) will be the best in the world:

**— Has Diogo Costa ever been linked to Manchester United , by the way? Have you talked about it? Did you put any connections in Old Trafford?**

    — [laughs] Of course, he has been mentioned in the past not only here, but also in several major European clubs. I have no doubt that he has the potential to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world. I maintain my opinion: he is already one of the best, but he will certainly be the best. He decides the timing, he will make his own decisions. If he stays his entire career at FC Porto , it will also be good for me, as a Porto fan, but he has more than enough capacity to be one of the best, as he has shown.

  3. I hate this mentality. Each game is the same. We have to approach it as a final? Why don’t you treat every game as must win? I like Dalot a lot and I like his aspects of his mentality but this comment is the same sort of loser mentality that has plagued United post SAF. The ‘we can make up for it next game’ or the Instagram captions ‘we must be better next game’ kind of mentality is terrible. It’s deeply rooted, festering in the dressing room. Treat each game like it’s a final. That is what it means to play for Manchester United.

  4. That’s the spirit, Dalot! Remember, you’re playing for Man United, not your former club FC Porto.

2 huge games but I hate the fact we are probably underdogs for both. We cannot lose these games ,playing the same way we did against spurs was anti football , good players do not turn bad overnight it’s got to be something behind the scenes.

  6. Everyone giving him stick for his defending, marking and tracking back, but it’s abundantly clear that he cannot play LB as his positioning is not there.

Really don’t understand why Mazraoui, although doing a very good job at RB, can’t play LB. Can use his left foot much more better than Dalot and has played there before. If they had been switched, can almost guarantee there back post marking wouldn’t have been like it has of late.

  7. *The gang loses 2-0*

Post-Match – We stuck to the plan. Its not easy. They are a tough team. Its a tough competition. We controlled the game outside of conceding two goals. We had a plan. We stuck to it. Its not easy but we won trophies the last year and the year before. I will look ahead to the next game.

  8. Why do we have to reach the ceiling every game for a win?
Why is the floor so low? Not a sign of a great football club.

  9. Did he treat the Barnsley game as a final aswell because he played v Spurs like he was on a 7 day celebratory bender.

Let’s hope he puts in a better performance than he did against Spurs. I know he is playing out of position but follow your man back instead of ball watching please
