Porto Manager Vitor Bruno & Alan Varela's Pre-Match Press Conference | Porto v United

Chris Wheeler

Vitor Bruno on Utd: 'I've heard a lot of people saying they have a rope around their necks but it would be a huge mistake (to underestimate them). We are talking about world-class players. If you tell a different story, it doesn't relate to the truth.'

'Any club has problems but tomorrow we have to be on our toes and very alert. It’s going to be very hard. Utd are No.13 in the Premier League but let’s see how things turn out. Ten Hag says he always has titles at the end of the year.'

'We are are talking about amazing, exciting players. Maybe they are not having their best moment, but we have to know where the danger is coming from and have the right state of mind.'

Vitor Bruno on having sympathy for Ten Hag: 'I don’t know him. I haven’t met him yet, but I would love to. In Portugal, if you lose one match you are almost dead.'

'There is a coach here, (Carlos) Carvahal who was in the Championship. He says in England the coaches have a cup of wine together after the match. If Ten Hag wants, the dressing-room is open for him.'

A good time to play Utd? 'I know what you mean, talking about the last match. But no, not at all. Exactly the opposite. We always see them as a threat. This is not a good point to take them on.'

Vitor Bruno on Bruno Fernandes: 'An international is always a quality player. He played at Sporting Lisbon so he will want to make a great performance tomorrow. The way he was sent off in the last match (v Spurs) wasn't reasonable at all.'

Alan Varela

Varela on Utd: 'They are a huge football club and an historic opponent. I'm sure they really want to win but we'll do everything we can to win.'

Top 5 back-handed compliment in history

Barnsley came to OT with belief they could actually beat us, before teams knew its going to be a long day, we played Wigan few years ago and we needed a pen to win, Coventry made a mockery the list is endless.

We’re away to Porto it’s going to be tough and there’s a real lack of confidence, i wouldn’t be surprised if we fail to win.

    > Maybe they are not having their best moment

The whole world sees it, yet some fans and the Club seem fine with it. Most of what we’ve seen so far should be unacceptable.

Just have an awful feeling things are going to
Get worse before they get better ! Something felt very final at OT on Sunday and just feel like Man Utd have been falling over themselves with PR positives to try and sugar coat things.

The open press training session, the pics of players having massive smiles and Benny’s interview praising Ten Hag , Ten Hag’s ever embarrassing self absorbed comments etc … All just feels forced and insincere

United have maybe 1 player who is world class, but it’s been hard yards trying to get the full potential out of a young and relatively inexperienced forward line (not including Marcus). I know everyone wants to place the blame on EtH, but it’s also on the current coaching staff to help develop them.

The team just doesn’t have the consistent resolve nor character throughout their starting XI and bench.

When you include these things with how they try to play knowing their weaknesses (ball retention, decision making with the ball and off the ball, goal scoring), it’s a struggle to see past the results because that’s what it always comes down to unless you’re willing to sacrifice results throughout a season to really teach, ingrain, and learn through failure to weed out players and see who are able to survive and thrive.

I can see us doing OK in this game, and then getting tonked by Villa. That just seems to be the way this team does things…

  7. oh we’re so screwed lmao, whenever an opposing manager says we have ‘world-class player’ these so called players play like league 2 players
