[Steven Railston] Constantly derided and under appreciated. Harry Maguire is the player you want to be in the trenches with #mufc

  1. Should be starting against Villa. Martinez needs to earn his spot back. The performances are no longer backing up the arrogance and at that point, the arrogance isn’t appreciated

He may not be the fastest or most technical but he at least has the fighter mentality

Why would I want him in the trench with me, enemy snipers would take him out in seconds

  4. Any player would have crumpled at the amount of trolling and pressure Maguire has received. Removed as captain as well. He is definitely a very good CB with some limitations and definitely a mentality monster

  5. He has completely proved me wrong and subverted my expectations after that horror season he had. Looking forward to how he will look under a new manager.

The last person I’d want to be in a trench with is a tall bloke with a massive head.

  7. He was under appreciated in the past but he isn’t anymore – he came out fighting and majority of United fans do appreciate his efforts and work on the pitch, across last and so far this season!

  8. Will be disappointed to see him not start against Villa. It’s only fair that he constantly impresses when on the pitch, and should be rewarded.

  9. Is he really constantly derided and underappreciated any more? I think all but his harshest critics say he is very good at what he does and always gives his all, and did well to come through a bad couple of years to be a steady presence at the back.

I don’t think saying that he ultimately lacks the attributes to be a starting defender in the system United are trying to play is deriding or underappreciating him

  10. Absolutely, probably the only player who has proven beyond doubt that he has the mental fortitude required to be at this club. We can debate his ability and skill, but man’s mental is rick solid.

Hats off to the lad! Plays with passion that most players are sadly lacking at the moment.

As much as I’m a fan of his attitude and I think he’s a great lad, he was atrocious up until he scored. Was only om the pitch 5 mins and already almost cost us a goal.

British journalism is in the mud

Easy to hit the slab from the other trench if you’re half decent with a rifle.

I get that he rescued the point in the end.. but the man put us in the situation where Porto should have finished the game off 4-2. Lucky really.

  15. He nearly gave away a goal too. He did well tonight but he’s not the answer either. We gotta stick with De Ligt and Martinez.

    One good cross.
    One.
    In the whole game.
    One. Good. Cross.
And thankfully Maguire was on the end of it.

People use the term ‘mentality monster’ in a facetious or ironic way. But Harry is a legit mentality monster.
