  1. Such a talented footballer he is. I understand why he left City but him goingvto AM was a fact I could never get over. I mean look at City – gorgeous creative football. Then look at AM (now they are much better) a bunch of players who look like they belong in a mma octagon than on a football pitch. Just hacking and pushing and committing fouls and what not backed by AM fans who are racist and rowdy as hell. How he thought he could be happy there after playing for City and Pep is beyond me.

  2. Alvarez spat his dummy out. Wanted to be the main character. Don’t like being in Haaland’s shadow. I get it, Alvarez has won more trophies in terms of his international career. Copa America and the World Cup. Fine. Haaland is a better goalscorer in the PL and was winning more praise. Alvarez didn’t like that. Problem for him was, pep doesn’t like players thinking they are the main attraction. Haaland gets that philosophy. Alvarez doesn’t. Hence why he’s now in Madrid being all miserable. Don’t want him back. Pep definitely doesn’t either

  3. Maybe he hoped to be playing as a 9 regularly, but moving to a Spanish speaking country and warmer climate may also have been important for his family. Simeone and Argentina connections probably went into overdrive trying to move him. Like we saw with Gundo, they’ll soon realize there’s no place like City.

  4. Still so early in the season. We can revisit these takes at the end of the season for Alvarez and even then who cares. Best of luck to him. Once a blue always a blue

  5. might not have been his decision to leave city you know. a lot goes on behind the scenes.

  6. I watched a few bits of a match or 2, and I was pretty surprised to see that Julian was not in fact playing striker.

I genuinely want him to do well.

But a teeny tiny part of me was rubbed wrong that ManCity generously let him go to Olympics after Copa America, which they did not have to do.

And then Julian decided to talk in public about deciding his future, all while Rodrigo de Paul & Molina were pushing him to join Atlético.

From [ESPN] [Is Julián Álvarez ready to be Atlético’s next great striker](https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/41452345/julian-alvarez-atletico-madrid-striker-madrid-derby-argentina)?

    > “And then I talked with some of the lads [at Atlético], who I already knew.”

    > “[They said] I should come, that I’d feel comfortable, that the club was great. They said I had to experience it from the inside to know what ‘Atlético de Madrid’ means.”

    > “I talked a lot with Antoine [Griezmann]. He told me the fans were great, that I was going to fall in love.”

I have no issue whatsoever with him evaluating his future, I just wish he hadn’t been so public about it. Yes he was asked questions, but there are ways to answer wo creating a sound bites.

Anyhoo, I truly hope it works out for him.

  7. He doesn’t have the physical for being a prominent striker. He doesn’t need to be tall but he definitely might need to bulk up a little like Aguero. Anyone tall or prominent will easily start over him since a tall striker is very important tactically.

His agent was hawking his mutton over a year ago. Let´s hope he finds happiness in Spain.

No hate for him. He already won everything at City at such a young age. It was respectable that he wanted to be the main man at another club. Unfortunately, things aren’t going as well as he expected. Hope he ends up finding his form and place.

Love Alvarez!! Still not sure why he left us. His minutes here weren’t going to be a problem but going from Pep to AM as an attacker is so dumb.

I feel that he is better than the main striker they have, and he really needs a rest. I’m sure that he will be able to play better and find his form wherever he is. He contributed massively last season when KDB was out injured
