These are Alfie Gilchrists defensive stats per 90 among fullbacks. Having just got his 6th clean sheet on the bounce he is having an absolutely incredible start to a season at Sheffield united. The blades have by far the best defensive record in the championship having only conceded 3 goals and Gilchrist has been a big part of that playing right back.

Stats don’t tell the whole story and of course this is only the second division but this gives a lot of hope to the kind of player that we could have on our hands here. John Terry raved over his defensive ability when asked about who our best academy products were last year and I think he knew what he was talking about.

I hope a better tactician than me can give a full breakdown on how he’s doing but based off my eye test and these stats. WOW.

Like I said I’m no tactician but have watched all of his games in the EFL so if you guys would like a post of a tactical breakdown of how he’s been off my limited understanding let me know

  1. I have not had a chance to see him play this season – looks like he’s doing well. And this is the Blades? One of the all-time worst Prem sides? Different league, but weren’t they the first Prem side to let in over a million goals in a season, or something (okay, I’m exaggerating, but 104 is a lot!!). So if he’s helping them turn that around – brill.

  2. I thought his height gonna be a problem to become a centre-back. So now he has been transformed into an RB?
