Postecoglou: “This was the worst defeat since I’ve signed for Spurs”.

“I’m frustrated and absolutely gutted with that. The second half was unacceptable”.

“We kind of accepted our fate and it is hard to understand as we’ve not done that while I’ve been here”, told Sky.

  2. Yeah cause we were in control and got complacent. He’ll be raging with this one

And naturally, the last game before the international break so we have a nice long 2 weeks to stew on this result… 🫠

  3. Why not make a change at minute 55 after they’ve been bossing us around for 10 minutes?

Never seen players give up at 2-0 up. Really weird behaviour. Welbeck’s goal summed it all up when Bentancur tried to half arsedly see the ball out and the Brighton attacker just wanted it more and got the cross in.

None of the goals served as a wake up call either. It’s fairly evident which of the lads had started on Thursday I must be honest, Ange needs to start rotating heavily in the EL once we’re in a safe position for qualification

  5. Who knew that Udogie getting skinned all game could lead to goals, certainly not our coach getting paid millions!

After conceded two goals in first half, Brighton’s young manager change his pressing tactics against Ange’s spurs. And it worked. And Ange was just substituing same position players on 80s min.We need a real manage who are bright at tactics .

Then don’t stand there with your hands in your pockets shaking your head every two minutes. We had one manager look at the movement of Kulu and Johnson, and said right, even though the full-back is good in possession and creating chances. I need to alter my formation slightly and bring on Pervis for more pace.

Ange watches Mitoma skin Porro since minute 25, put a tap-in for Welbeck, create numerous chances on that side, and go… ahh mate, not yet. First goal comes from that transition, not yet mate, second goal too. It’s genuinely laughable at this level.

I love how we play when in control of the ball, but this reckless abandon to not help out our midfield, or identify threats (newcastle ball over-the-top with Gordon/Isak) just makes infuriates me so much.

Just keep shaking your head, Ange. I’m sure that’ll enthuse the players to get out of this ‘adversity’ they need.

First game this season I felt we legitimately deserved to lose. We were flat footed the moment the second half kicked off. Brighton deserved the 3 points.

We seemed to be in such a control and playing beautiful football it was hard to imagine that we would crumble like this. That makes it even harder to swallow. Maybe being a young team, tired legs, lat subs, or combination of all but it felt like we totally lost fluidity in the 2nd half and couldn’t string two passes together. Maybe we should have moved Micky to left back and get Radu in and give the protection and give Micky some freedom to help out in attack would have helped along with fresh legs at 60 mins

Why does Ange seem to think other managers will just roll over for us when we lead at the half. No corresponding adjustments are made. Just let Brighton back into the game and made subs a half hour too late. Shocking game management from him

The one time I felt like should have parked the bus, after they scored the first goal.

The lack of any decisive response is inexcusable. Unless your bench is totally devoid of senior players there’s no excuse for not immediately making any changes after you have conceded 2 goals in 10 minutes or 3 in 20.

  13. All this noise about subs but only 3 of these players played midweek, and yet the entire team looked like they’d gone to sleep in the second half. Genuinely think Werner might have been the most lively and he played Thursday. Ange was waiting for the team to step up and play like they had something on the line and it didn’t happen.

  14. He needs to take a look at himself for this loss. I’m a big fan of Ange but he’s not beyond reproach. He shit the bed badly today with an inability to react to what was happening in the second half. Awful, awful management from him today, he really needs to wake the fuck up and learn from this.

  15. Comfortable_Lab1725 on

Both Bentacur and Bissouma always become complacent in the second half if we are 2-0 up. Rodri, Modric are 1 step ahead and I don’t see them ever get complacent.

  16. It’s crazy because it’s also our most predictable and easily avoidable defeat since he signed for Spurs. Make the subs the minute Brighton pulled one back and it’s a whole different game. They’d been gaining momentum since before half time so it wouldn’t have been harsh or reactionary either.

  17. In terms of an overall performance no its not the worst but I can imagine why to him it’s the worst since we were so good in the first half and then simply stopped and utterly crumbled which will piss him off more than anybody else connected to the club. The players are lucky that a Intl break is coming cause I expect some home truths and reinforcement of the standards he expects from everybody to be in order when they come back

  18. He waits until the car has driven off the cliff before he chooses to jump out, too late mate.

West Ham next, they will turn into the Galacticos for one day so we need to do better.

  19. False_Vacuum_Decay on

Good to see he’s furious and rightfully so. Our defenders need to hang their heads in shame. Wtf were they doing?

  20. Funny thing is, if one of us said this, we’d be downvoted and called negative and that we should stop wishing for a return to Conte-ball.

  21. Undesirable_11 on

If you don’t add some flexibility into your tactics then it will be the first of many

  22. stepped_in_some_shit on

To me it looks like Ange is saying he didn’t make the subs because he wanted the players on the pitch to compete instead of surrender, and he’d rather lose to get his point across than win by making subs.

Ange is definitely stubborn, and I believe that with his approach, it’s going to be a race between him getting sacked for poor results or him finally embedding his mentality in the team and going on a rampage.

I’m definitely rooting for the latter, but I won’t be surprised if it’s the former. Afterall, the club can’t go along with midtable finishes just to cater to one manager’s coaching philosophy. I still hope we do succeed the way he wants though, it will be glorious.

  23. This one is more on him imho. Brighton tweaked their tactics and the difference was obvious. Ange made some like for like (late) substitutions and I think he should have subbed Timo.

  24. Sister-Moon_81 on

We lost when the halftime whistle went, we were playing too good & it should have been 4-0.

So despite whatever Ange said at half time, the players sat there and looked around & thought “How Good Are We!!!” The players expected to cruise to a quality away win.

Human psychology killed us, One player went out in the 2nd half thinking the job was 90% done & anyway, their other 10 teammates will pick up the slack if I take it a bit easy & they will take care of the business….. Problem was the other 10 players were all thinking the same way. It happens so many times in many various Sports around the world & is not really Anges’ fault, “the players dropped the ball”, “put the cue in the rack”, “took the foot off the accelerator”, “put the cart before the horse”, “counted their chickens before they had even hatched”, “already started thinking about next week” …..etc ….etc …..

Or, as we often say in Australia: “Thought they’d already climbed the Harbour Bridge when they were actually only sitting on an Opera House Sail & got had distracted by the beautiful view (the beautiful football they’d been playing)” OK, I made that one up. 😁

  25. ConallDubhghall on

    Agreed!

His reasoning is sound too, now it’s up to the players to not let it happen again even if Ange is far from blameless obviously.

  26. The players have to take some responsibility, it’s not all on the manager.

Udogie and Romero were very poor and even Van de Ven wasn’t his regular self.

Meanwhile for all those saying, he should have made subs, very few are saying those are the players he should have subbed.

  27. HotelCaliformula on

I’m not saying the criticism isn’t valid, but I genuinely don’t know which subs Ange could’ve made when the entire team decided to switch off after the half.

  28. Love all the experts in here who think they know more than a Premier League manager. Glad it’s Ange running the show and not you idiots.
