In many ways you can argue his tenure was percieved so bad due to things almost all of which were out of his control. Club in turmoil, manager who didn’t really want him, his price tag, an absolute wizard springing from hale end in his position.

Got very unlucky during his time here. Played most of his best games during lockdown so couldn’t connect as much with the fans, we really lacked creative midfielders, huge expectations due to the price tag, all the drama with Auba and the others. It’s nice to see him playing well in la liga this season.

Anyone remember that game vs Wolves. It was right after AFCON 2022. He came on late in the second half & single handedly changed the game. Mikel said he had a future at the club if he kept playing like that.

I liked Pepe but a lot his goals were in Europa league against lesser talent. He had a great left foot, but that was about it. When you kept him from doing that he wasn’t very effective. Not sure he was great fit for Arteta but had talent and was fun to watch.

Possible hot take: i think Pepe could have thrived as sakas backup in today’s Arsenal. Doesn’t have the tracking back work rate but would have been nice to have for some of the “easier” games where saka could have been rested. I also think his work rate could have improved just like Havertz.
