Ange Postecoglou on if he should be more pragmatic:

“I get the people say well be more pragmatic like everyone else, I don’t want to be like everyone else. That doesn’t mean I’m going to be successful, but what I’m not going to do is become one of the masses.”

  1. I’m certainly not against a manager can be himself, think it’s a good thing but you can still be pragmatic and keep your principles.

The benchmarks for thid are the 3 elite PL managers in recent years, Pep, Arteta and Klopp.
All had their own ideas but were pragmatic too.

People are using the term “pragmatic” like it’s a proven method of winning titles. It’s not.

We don’t spend the amount of money that man city spends, so we’re not going to be as skilled. That means we need a strategic edge to win trophies. Ange understands this and has a plan – playing attacking dangerous football can be extremely difficult for opponents to deal with if the team is trained and 100% committed. The team is not fully trained and not fully committed. You saw that against Brighton when we took the foot off the gas.

So being “pragmatic” for Ange is to give up on the system before committing fully to the system. Being pragmatic means being a worse version of the bigger teams in the league. Being pragmatic means no trophies.

  3. or adapt a bit, take home ur leads, win a title with „cursed“ spurs and become a coaching legend

Nobody wants to us to revert to Mourinho tactics but the midfield against Brighton was getting destroyed in the second half, and by the time he brought on Pap and Biss it was too late. He made the right sub, so it’s obviously not completely against his principles, he just needed to do it sooner.

  5. It’s become clear that most people don’t even seem to understand what the word “pragmatic” even means.

They think those who suggest it are saying he needs to completely abandon his principles and turn into Conte.

  6. When are they gonna stop asking this man the same question over and over? The man is not going to change end of story. I hate that this debate over tactics has to happen every time we lose/draw a game. The only question should be whether we are improving and that is undoubtably yes.
