Note: Millwall haven’t either, but have been sponsored by a racing betting newspaper.
The clubs appear to correlate both with the teams who have played in the top 2 tiers least often in recent years (so less TV exposure) as well as being some of the most southern clubs.

As we need the money, I for one think we could do with a betting sponsor.

And given how financially cooked we were a few years ago, an absolute surprise that we haven’t.
I know our current sponsor isn’t probably the most lucrative but with the amount of work the club does in the community, and how big the University is as an employer in the city, I’m very happy that we’re (currently) advocating education.

Wow, just four teams, I hate that betting sponsors are everywhere in football nowadays. Don’t get me wrong, if Derby was not sponsored by 32red, we would never have gotten Rooney his wages were way too high for us … but still they needs to be something in place so it not plastered on shirts galore. Heck our last playoff final could of been called the skybet 32red championship play-off final as both us and villa was sponsored by them.

Had to wrack my brains to think when Wednesday have had a main shirt gambling sponsor. But yes, Napoleons Casino back in 03-05 which was owned by the chairman of the time, Dave Allen.
Although, being an actual establishment, that somehow feels a lot tamer and less egregious than some of the online clickbet ones you get now…
I also think we’ll look back in years to come at gambling sponsors in football in the same way tobacco sponsorship in F1 is now. It’ll seem weird, wrong, and outdated.

So Plymouth finishes top 2 and bottom 3. Are they going up or down?

Even though having Classic Builders in Times New Roman slapped on the shirt looks a tad tinpot, I’d still take it over some terrible gambling companies or crypto scams any day of the week. I’d still prefer a return to good old Ginsters though.
Looks to me like many of the traditionally smaller clubs in the league (except Portsmouth who I’d call much larger) have the right idea here.
